Mission:
The
Heart
Mission is at the
heart of the ministry of any church. In doing so, we
follow Christ's teaching about the judgment of the
nations found in Matthew 25, attentive to God's call
to serve the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick,
and imprisoned. We heed the summons of the prophets
to bring about justice and righteousness (Isaiah
1:16, 17; Amos 5:24; Micah 6:8). We respond to
Christ's Great Commission to bring the Good News to
all the world.
Glen Avon does this
through concrete service to people locally and far
away. Our youth travel every other summer to a city
in another state to serve the poor. In alternate
years, they serve locally through our Mission Duluth
program. The church has responded to the needs of
flood victims in Iowa. It supports the mission
causes of the Presbytery of Northern Waters and the
Presbyterian Church (USA).
