Upcoming Discernment Team Updates
On June 7 & 14, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., Session's Mission Discernment Team met with members of the congregation at which status reports were given and discussion was encouraged regarding the new Sunday morning schedule.

Discernment Team Meeting with Leadership
The congregation was invited to attend any of five discussion times January 10, 11 (before/after worship), and 18 (before/after worship), 2009. These sessions included discussion of the new Sunday morning schedule which began March 1, 2009. Fifty-seven people attended. Click here to see the Team's Recommendations.

Mission Discernment Team Meetings
Meetings of the Discernment Team, together with other key stakeholders, were held on December 8 & 15, 2008 and January 3, 2009 to discuss implementation of the church's vision. These meeting are always open to all.  The Project Team for coordination of the two Sunday morning worship services will be chaired by Bonnie Jorgenson and Debbie Sauer.

Presentation to Congregation
On November 23, 2008, at the Congregational Meeting, an update on the strategic planning process was presented.  The materials for this presentation are available by clicking here.

November Session Meeting
At its November meeting, our Session continued work on these important matters.  Se
ssion adopted the new Vision Statement (above), adopted a  process for continued planning and agreed to work on four strategic initiatives.  Glenn Simmonds was added to the Discernment Team to provide continuity with the labors of the former ad hoc discernment team.

Leadership Gathering
Session members and other leaders of the church, about 30 people, gathered on November 1, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to begin discussions regarding long range plans for the church.  This meeting was facilitated by Jeff Thompson who  blessed our congregation with the gift of his time and talents.  All interested members of the congregation were invited to attend.

The leadership gathering began with prayer and a devotional.  Participants then listed the many strengths, opportunities, challenges and risks facing our church.  The participants were then divided into five smaller groups in order to discuss and write down their vision for our church in three years.  The combined vision statement which resulted from the meeting is above.

The group also spent time brainstorming and discussing strategic initiatives for the church.  In order to rank the proposed strategic initiatives, participants were later asked to vote for their top three.

To guide and steer further progress of the strategic planning process, those at the leadership gathering created an ongoing Mission Discernment Team. At that stage, it consisted of  Bonnie Jorgenson; John Kliewer; Larry Lehner; Debbie Sauer; Greg Sandbulte and Claudia Welty (chair). John Kliewer eventually left the team. Glenn Simmonds, Janet Stone (Worship Committee Chair), and Mary Lou Tarvers (Outreach Committee Chair) later joined the team.
