The Glen Avon

Memorial Garden

1.  The Glen Avon Memorial Garden Sub-Committee oversees the Memorial Garden established on the property of the Glen Avon Presbyterian Church on September 19, 1994.  The Garden is a place where ashes from cremation (cremains) are buried.  The cremains are placed directly into the soil and become a part of the life of the garden.  No urns or containers are to be buried.

2.  The Garden is used to receive the cremains of Glen Avon Church members, their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children and siblings), and former church members.  Questions of eligibility are to be referred to the Session.

3.  The Glen Avon Church does not guarantee the perpetuity of the Memorial Garden and there is no legal liability to do so.  The State of Minnesota specifically exempts the Church from any such liability.  However, there is a moral obligation on the part of the Church to maintain the garden for the purpose intended.

4.  The site for the Memorial Garden is on the Lewis Street side of the Glen Avon Church building.

5.  Landscaping, insofar as possible, will be financed by the memorials and special gifts.  A rock or boulder with a memorial plaque has been placed in the Garden.  No other decorations are permitted.  Inside the Church building is a memorial plaque with the names of those whose cremains are placed in the Garden.  Records of  those persons whose cremains are in the Garden are kept within the Church records also.

6.   Supervision of the care and maintenance of the Garden and the memorial plaques rest with the Properties Committee of the Session.  Preparation of informational materials and record-keeping is the responsibility of the Memorial Committee of the Session.  Survivor counseling and memorial services will be provided by one of the Co-Pastors or their designee.  The church custodian or a designee prepares the interment site.

7.  Any registration statement or official paper which must be filed must be approved by the Session.

8.  There is no set cost for the deposit of cremains in the Garden, but the family is asked to make a contribution to the Glen Avon Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
