Program
The Legacy and Endowment Fund’s Peterson Scholarship Program provides scholarships of $2000 per year for up to four years to graduating high school students of academic promise who have experienced some challenge in their lives that has kept them from performing at their scholastic potentials. This challenge might be a family, health, or personal choice issue that prevents them from qualifying for other local, merit-based scholarships. The committee also administers the Daniel and Catherine Mundt Scholarship and the Kenneth and Concetta Schoen Scholarship, also at the $2000 level for up to four years. Counselors and administrators at Denfeld, East and Harbor City High Schools identify eligible students. Teams of Legacy and Endowment Fund Committee members then interview students at each high school and select scholarship recipients. If scholars make regular progress toward a postsecondary degree or certification, the scholarship is renewable for three additional years. In 2013, the Fund awarded eleven new scholarships and will renew funding for sixteen ongoing scholars. If you believe you may qualify for one of our scholarships, or if you would like more information, please contact your counselor at Central, Denfeld, or East High School.
